3/1/10 - Good Morning to everybody!!!!!!! We have made it to March. Please remember that this is the month that includes shots falling that have not been close to falling all year. Be aware!!!!!!!!! Frederick Douglass will play Detroit Catholic Central @ 5pm today. Catholic Central will be tough and physical, so this will be a good pre-state tournament test. Congratulations to the Frederick Douglass Middle School Basketball Team on celebrating their successful season on yesterday. Coach Curtis Stove held a very nice reception for the boys @ Starters Restaurant. Each player received a trophy and personal accolades from Coach Stove. Coach Fred Whitmore, myself and a nice gathering of family and friends attended the gathering. Congrats are in order for one of my coaching colleagues. Big shout out to Pete Walton @ Chandler Park on winning the Michigan Charter Conference Division and Conference Championship. They are currently ranked 7th in Class C in the state.
3/2/10 - Frederick Douglass continued their string of woeful performances by losing to Catholic Central 59-58. A very dismal and lethargic approach to the game allowed Douglass to dig a well to start the game. Catholic Central jumped out to a 9-0 lead and it was an uphill climb the rest of the game. Douglass shot terrible from the floor as a whole. Bates, Hogan and Richardson missed an embarrasing amount of barely contested close range shots. Timothy Bates led with 26 pts, but shot beyond erratic probably due to the uprising of other priorities and lack of practice time. Dennis Hogan added 15 pts, but got tangled up in a mental battle with the officiating and was plagued by foul trouble before fouling out. John Gaston did not play due to flu-like symptoms. The loss drops Douglass to 14-5 Overall with one game left vs. Loyola High School @ 6pm on Thursday. Loyola is the 2010 Catholic League (C-D Division) Champions. Hopefully, things will get better as the state tournament is on the horizon.

Douglass got back to team basketball tonight, which allowed things to flow a whole lot smoother. Douglass was led by Mark anthony Buright with 19 pts, 6 asts and 4 stls. Marteze Asberry added 14 pts. Kendall Johnson gave 12 pts, 5 asts and 6 stls. Daveon Gray chipped in with 8 pts and 6 stls. Douglass played without Dennis Hogan, Timothy Bates and Kamaul Richardson, who were suspended for disciplinary reasons. Douglass will open the state tournament on Wednesday @ Southwestern High School. We will be playing Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences @ 4pm. It's money time ladies and gentlemen. Thank you Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3/7/10 - Well, Well,Well all records have gone out the window. Everybody is 0-0 and it is now a mad dash to 6-0 to finish the season. Seniors will either laugh on or cry now and David will resurface and slay Goliath again. Shots that never fell during the year will go down now with no problem. Certain players may become unsung heroes overnight. Whatever the scenario everybody play like it could be your last time and see where the chips may fall.

New Boston was 22-0 on the season, but they are definitely gone fishing for this season. Their leading scorer Zach Richardson was held to 2 pts on 0-19 shooting. The rim was very unkind to Mr. Richardson. Timothy Bates led the team with 14 pts and 6 rebs. Marteze Asberry added 9 pts and 7 rebs. Dennis Hogan grabbed 11 big rebounds. The Hurricanes will play Academy of Oak Park on Wednesday night @ 7pm @ Riverview Community High School. We have 4 more to go ya'll.
